Pgc/Pgd/MSc in HIV/AIDS Prevention and Sexual Health Strategy - 180 credits

 

Aims of the Course

The aim of the course is to prepare students for senior management roles at both national and international levels in HIV/AIDS prevention strategy and sexual health planning.

Target Audience

The course is intended for people already working or intending to work at senior management levels in HIV/AIDS prevention strategy and sexual health planning. Thus, the course is suitable for doctors, nurses, health visitors, health services managers, public health officers, social workers, youth & community leaders, human resources managers and other allied healthcare professionals.

Postgraduate Certificate Course

In order for a postgraduate certificate to be awarded, students would have to pass the 4 modules below. The postgraduate certificate course carries 60 academic credits. The course is studied and assessed at level 7 of the UK qualifications scale.

1.      Public Health Promotion (15 credits)

2.      HIV/AIDS Prevention Strategy (15 credits)

3.      Project Management (15 credits)

4.      Health Services Management (15 credits)

The Postgraduate certificate is awarded by the College of Venereal Disease Prevention, London.

Postgraduate Diploma Course

In order to be awarded the postgraduate diploma, students must successfully complete the 4 postgraduate certificate modules above and the 4 postgraduate diploma modules (i.e. a total of 8 modules) below. The postgraduate diploma course carries 120 academic credits. The course is studied and assessed at level 7 of the UK qualifications scale.

The postgraduate diploma is awarded by the College of Venereal Disease Prevention, London.

Master of Science (MSc) Degree

In order to be awarded the MSc degree, students must have successfully completed the 8 modules (i.e. 4 modules of the postgraduate certificate and the 4 modules of the postgraduate diploma modules) plus the Dissertation module.

The MSc programmes carries 180 academic credits. The course is studied and assessed at level 7 of the UK qualifications system.

The MSc degree is awarded by Central University of Nicaragua (Universidad Central de Nicaragua)

Course Delivery and Attendance

The course is delivered in a variety of methods, including direct lectures, case studies, tutorials and group work.

Assessment

Assessment of this course is based on Essay-based written assignments, reports, presentations, research projects and direct examinations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should:-

a)     Hold recognised degree in any subject area; or

b)     Hold an appropriate recognised professional qualification; or

c)      Hold a qualification lower than the ones above, but have at least 2 years appropriate management experience; or

d)     Hold no formal qualifications, but have at least 8 years appropriate management experience; plus

e)     Meet the English Language requirements below.

English Language Requirements

To be considered for admission, you must show competence in spoken and written English, in addition to meeting the entry requirements above
